Team pays respects before winning Sectional game
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The North Decatur football team hopped on the bus… for a home game on Friday.
They weren’t going to a football field or an opposing school. They were going to a funeral home.
The football team joined students, faculty and hundreds of community members to honor a North Decatur alum Friday night.
Natalie Volk-Rennekamp graduated from North Decatur in 2007 and has three sons in the school system.
She passed away from a car crash near Enochsburg which also claimed her unborn daughter last Friday.
The team and coaches went to the visitation just hours before kickoff.
Her cousin, Chris Hountz, is an East Central graduate and said North Decatur now has a new fan.
“I never seen anything like that, those coaches and players deserve a ton of credit and I cannot thank them enough for that,” Hountz told The 812.
The Chargers would later win and will face Milan next Friday.
