There were 12 student organizations involved
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- North Decatur welcomed the community in for a benefit dinner for a local family on Sunday night.
36-year-old Natalie Rennekamp passed away after a car crash in Enochsburg last month. The accident also claimed her unborn child.
Rennekamp is a North Decatur graduate and her children are currently in school there.
Classmates, teachers and parents hosted a Spaghetti Dinner and Bake Sale Benefit with proceeds going to the family.
Student organizations that participated were FFA, Kindness Caring Club, Cross Country, Student Council, National Honor Society, Social Studies Academic Team, Art Academic Team, Cheerleading, Chargerettes, FCCLA, SADD and 4H members.
"We had clubs that donated cups, others donated napkins, plates other items," said North Decatur FFA instructor Katie Morman. "There were also anonymous donations made by community members and the school for pasta, rolls and other items."
Morman said it is heartwarming to see so many students and community members step up for the family.
"It is amazing to see the love and compassion for their classmates. Some are in clubs with those boys while other students may just see them in the hallway," she said. "Just the kindness in their heart to ask 'How can I help' and jump in, in anyway."
The benefit dinner was held at the school cafeteria from 4 to 7 p.m. tonight.
There will be another benefit for the family at Midtown Diner this coming weekend.
