(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- Head coach Steve Stirn is leaving his mark on the North Decatur football program.
Last year, he led the Chargers to their first-ever Semi-State appearance in school history.
Stirn is aware that expectations are high this season despite losing some key players such as Reid Messer and Carson Parmer.
"Our players must trust the process and commit themselves to getting better. The expectations are high, but i believe that we will have the proper mental approach to the season," Stirn added.
On Friday, they kicked off the season with a 41-14 win over rival South Decatur Cougars.
The win marked Stirn's 66th victory at North Decatur which becomes the most in school history.
Coach Stirn says the accomplishment wouldn't be possible without the support he's received over the past eight years.
"I am very proud of the accomplishment and thankful for our coaching staff and administrators who have supported the rebirth of this program," Stirn said. "I appreciate the many players and families who have bought in to the program and has made North Decatur special."
"We have achieved this together. I cherish the memories that we have created and look forward to the future," he added.
