(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- North Decatur Elementary Principal Rob Smith received a birthday bash from his school on Friday, December 8.

Kindergarten teacher Allison Wilkerson is the head of the Social Committee at North Decatur Elementary, she along with several of the other members orchestrated a celebration for their principal’s 60th birthday.

“We are so lucky to have a principal that has a great sense of humor, and we are able to do fun things like this," Wilkerson said.

Almost all the teachers participated in a dance, which included signs and pom poms.

The dance was to the song “Hey Mickey”, replacing the lyric Mickey with Smithy, a nickname for Mr. Smith.

Vice Principal Jeremy Sherman was in charge of leading Mr. Smith to the gym for his surprise.

“The hardest part was keeping it a secret. We managed to pull it off though,”Sherman laughed.

The look of astonishment was clear on Smith’s face as he was escorted into the gym by Sherman. The students greeted him by singing Happy Birthday, led by one of the elementary’s music teachers, Tonya Downey.

At the end of the performance, each class presented handmade cards to Mr. Smith.

“I am so blessed to have an amazing student body and staff. The school truly is my family," Smith said.
