North, South Decatur participate in Pheidippides Cup

Annual event is cross-country version of ND,SD Civil War

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- North Decatur Girls and South Decatur Boys won the at the Southeastern Baptist Camp Tuesday, Sept. 5.


North girls posted 21 points to South's 37. South boys posted 22 points to North's 34.


North Decatur girls were led by Dot Robbins' first place finish in 25 minutes, 9 seconds. North girls also took third, fourth, sixth, and seventh places for the Chargers.

South Decatur's Clair Schoettmer paced the Cougars, coming in second, while South runners also took fifth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh places.

South Decatur took the top three spots in the boys race, led by senior Donovan Hale's first place with a personal best, 19:10. The Cougars also had runners in fifth and eleventh place.

North Decatur boys were led by Logan Oddel's fourth place finish, and Charger runners placed sixth through tenth place.


The Pheidippides Cup is cross country's version of the Civil War competition

between North and South Decatur. Pheidippides is the central figure in the story that inspired the modern marathon race. Pheidippides is said to have run from Marathon to Athens to deliver news of the victory of the battle of Marathon.
