OA donates to Honduras housing project

Students and staff collected change to make big impact

(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – Oldenburg Academy held a fundraiser during Catholic Schools Week.

“A Change for Change” fundraiser was organized by OA’s Campus Ministry Director Debbie Gregg.

To show how change can happen through small contributions, students and staff added coins to designated grade-level jars.

By the end of the week, the school had raised $1,500.

The funds will go toward the construction of  52 single-dwelling homes in the village of Cucuyagua, Honduras. It is part of the Adopt-a-Village project spearheaded by St. Mary’s Church in Greensburg.

"It is always delightful to witness the spirit of giving within our OA community as we endeavor to be Christ to others,” said Debbie Gregg. “As St. Francis reminded us, ‘It is in giving that we receive.’ We are blessed to be part of this Honduras project, which is in coalition with St. Mary's and Food for the Poor.”

OA will give the check to the St. Marys' Greensburg team leading the Adopt-a-Village project.

“As a Catholic school community, we are called to help met the needs of others both locally and globally,” added Annette Hunger, President of Oldenburg Academy. “As such, partnering with a local parish to help a community in another country was a perfect fit.”
