On The Sidelines With Sandy: Sam Ringer

Wabash football player reflects on time at East Central

(CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.) – Sam Ringer has left a lasting mark on East Central football, both on and off the field.

Longtime photographer Sandy Mahoney recently traveled to campus to catch up with Sam.

While in high school,  he found success on the field and was responsible for a tradition that continues after every football game.

The segment was called “Sitting With Sam” and it was a celebratory photo of Sam with other players or coaches on the sidelines.

Here are some "Sitting With Sam" photos from 2021:

During his senior year, Sam had a remarkable kickoff return that ended up on SportsCenter.

He also performed well in the classroom as he was a National Honor Society member and was named Academic All-State.

His former coach, Jake Meiners said, “He also has impacted our community through the various clubs and organizations that he is a part of. Sam has a very bright future ahead of him.”

Sam credits East Central academically for preparing him for college.

“It was essential. Just the course offerings there prepared me well, and honestly, it all really depends on you and what you get out of the high school experience there,” Ringer said.

He said Wabash was the perfect choice for him due to the prestigious brotherhood and the alumni network.

“I know the alumni network here will help me when I get out into the real world and have to get a job,” Ringer added.

Sam is now an outside linebacker with 31 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries this season. One recovery led to a 100-yard touchdown return for Ringer.

Ringer will play against Depauw in the 130th Monon Bell Classic on Saturday, November 16.
