Original car raced at the Brickyard
(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A NASCAR driven by legendary racer AJ Foyt is owned by an Batesville car enthusiast and it is now for sale.
The four-time Indy 500 winner retired in 1992 but decided to participate in the inaugural Brickyard 400 in 1994.
The #50 stock car was built specifically for Foyt who finished in 30th position at the first-ever Brickyard.
Doug Obermeyer, of Batesville, bought that race car about four years ago and has kept it in its original condition.
It still has the original Penske engine and transmission along with the original paint from the 1994 race.
The car is one of the last all original cars remaining from the historic race.
“Most other cars in the event, including Jeff Gordon’s winning car, have either been wrecked, repainted, or had engine/drivetrain swaps,” Obermeyer said.
The car is autographed by Foyt and has the original documentation from chassis builder Hutcherson-Pagan.
“Under my ownership, the car was race prepped and set up to turn both left and right. I drove the car at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational in June of 2022,” Obermeyer added.
Another historical component is that it was the last car Foyt would complete a race in at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Obermeyer has listed the historic race car at $45,000 and you can learn more by clicking here.
