Gorman is a best-selling author with over 30 million copies sold
(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) -- A New York Times best-selling author of children's and teen books visited Franklin County Middle School on Thursday.
Gordan Korman, of New York City, has written 102 books and sold more than 35 million copies in a career that has spanned four decades.
Korman gave his first presentation to fourth, fifth and sixth graders from Brookville Elementary, Laurel and Mount Carmel.
That was followed by a presentation to Franklin County middle school students.
The writer spoke with the kids about his career as well as what happens behind-the-scenes when writing a book. He spoke about the processes of research, brainstorming, developing characters, dialogue, rewriting and revision.
Several students were inspired by Korman's visit to Brookville.
"This visit was really important because people have to know the stories behind the books. A book may have a story but the author also has a story too," said Franklin County Middle School student Aeriana Larson.
Mount Carmel fourth grader Rylee Ketchum attended the presentation and said, "When an author comes and visits it is very special because most schools don't have author visits. It makes me very happy and excited when they do."
Korman also held a writer's workshop at the Brookville library on Thursday.
