Radio icon Jim Scott passes away at 81

Updated: 17 hours ago

A Celebration of Life is being planned

(HIDDEN VALLEY, Ind.) – Cincinnati radio icon Jim Scott has passed away after a battle with ALS.

His wife, Donna, made the announcement on his Facebook page Saturday morning.

For nearly 50 years on Cincinnati radio, he felt like a friend to millions of listeners who awoke to his voice -- and he was that friend. Jim was the real deal, and I loved standing back and watching him meet people, talk with them and making others feel good about themselves,” Donna wrote.

Scott began his radio career in Cincinnati in 1968 and was the longtime morning host on 700 WLW.

Many in Southeast Indiana may know him much more personally. He was known for showing up to church festivals and other events in our area.

On a personal note, Jim touched my life greatly and gave me a tremendous opportunity. Prior to starting The 812, I worked in radio.

In 2015, I met Jim at RedsFest and introduced myself as a news reporter from WRBI. He asked, “Do you want to work in a bigger market?”

Jim is solely responsible for me getting hired at 700WLW which was a huge part of my development as a news journalist.

Donna said there will not be a traditional funeral but there will be a Celebration of Life in the near future. We will provide an update when those details are released.
