Calls it a "sad day in America"
(SALEM, Ind.) – United States Representative Erin Houchin is sharing a statement after a New York jury found former President Donald Trump guilty on 34 counts Thursday.
Trump is the first U.S. president to be convicted of a crime. The trial was in regard to falsifying documents to cover up a payment to a silence a porn star.
The local congresswoman says this is a sad day in America.
“This trial and verdict should never have happened. I never imagined we would witness a former President of the United States being politically prosecuted. This is a clear miscarriage of justice, and the American people won’t forget this corrupt, two-tiered system,” U.S. Rep. Houchin said.
“It’s a travesty that we are witnessing this level of election interference in our country. I look forward to President Trump’s appeal of this verdict and its reversal," she added.
The former president is scheduled to attend a sentencing hearing in mid-July.
I have no faith in people who have no faith in the American justice system. People who think an authoritarian government would be better need to review their history, remember the Dark Ages when 8 million people died, almost half were executed, and make note of the behavior of dictators in the modern world.
