(INDIANAPOLIS) -- State Rep. Randy Lyness, who has served House District 68 for eight years, announced Monday that he will not seek re-election.

Rep. Lyness said he will retire after serving out his current term.

"Over the last eight years, it has been a privilege to represent the good people of House District 68," Lyness said. "During my time as a legislator, I have worked to keep government small, including cutting taxes to help Hoosiers keep more of the money they earned. I'm grateful for all the support I have received throughout my time in the legislature and for the opportunity to serve our communities."

Lyness represents House District 68, which includes Ohio, Switzerland and Dearborn counties, and a portion of Jefferson County.

He is a lifetime resident of Southeast Indiana and lives with his wife, Linda, in West Harrison..

On Monday, Dearborn County attorney Garrett Bascom annnounced his campaign to replace Lyness. Bascom is an attorney who has served in the Indiana Attorney General’s Office and as Deputy Prosecutor for Dearborn-Ohio County before launching his own private practice in 2023.
