MoneyGeek conducted the report
(COLUMBUS, Ind.) – A new report names Columbus, Indiana as the safest small city in America.
The personal finance site MoneyGreek analyzed FBI data from more than 1,000 small towns and cities.
MoneyGeek also weighed how crime impacts local economies, such as direct costs from loss of property, victims services, police staffing and insurance rates.
The data led to Columbus earning the top spot in the safest small cities category.
MoneyGeek added that small cities and towns have 48 percent less crime cross than larger cities.
However, the data shows that some small towns are comparable to large cities. For example, Pine Bluff, Arkansas has a higher crime cost per capita than 292 large cities they analyzed.
They also pointed out that New York City has a crime cost comparable with Juneau, Alaska and Grand Island, Nebraska.
