Ripley County issues burn ban; Decatur Co. firefighters warn public

Issued on Wednesday

UPDATE: Decatur County has now issued a burn ban as of 4PM Wednesday.

Original Post:

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A burn ban has been issued in Ripley County Wednesday.

It means open fires are prohibited due to the ongoing drought conditions. Only enclosed fires, such as grilling or fire pits, are allowed.

The only county in our area without a burn ban right now is Decatur County.

However, the Decatur County Firefighter Association (DCFA) has issued a statement warning the public against open fires.

The risk of uncontrolled fires has significantly increased, posing a serious threat to our homes, crops, wildlife, and natural resources,” DCFA Chairperson Justin Speer wrote.

He added that Decatur County Commissioners are currently considering instituting a ban.
