Citizens will still have police services in Rising Sun
(RISING SUN, Ind.) – Rising Sun City Council is considering a measure to dissolve their police department, according to multiple sources.
If the department dissolves, citizens would not go without police services, as it would be handed over to the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office.
The Rising Sun Police Department currently has five officers, and each of those officers would have an opportunity to apply for a similar position with the sheriff's office, The 812 confirmed.
City Council is expected to hear, and possibly vote on the measure, during a public meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 1.
The 812 reached out to the City of Rising Sun on Friday and awaiting further information and clarity into the matter.
