Rising Sun Harp company vying for "Coolest Thing Made in Indiana"

Updated: Nov 14

Harpsicle Harps needs your votes to advance

(RISING SUN, Ind.) – A Rising Sun harp manufacturer is one of 32 businesses vying for the title of “Coolest Thing Made in Indiana.”

William Rees began making harps on a part-time basis in California in 1972.

It became a full-time business in the 1990’s and the family decided to relocate outside of California to grow the business. They settled in Rising Sun.

The business quintupled in size and by 2003, William introduced the Harpsicle Harp which has been shipped all over the world.

Kevin Rohrbach has worked at the business since he was in high school and says this competition will hopefully shine a light on our corner of the state.

“I started here when I was 15-years-old and had never seen a harp in my life! No one ever hears of harp markers, especially around here, and to be able to say it’s in our hometown is awesome,” Rohrbach told The 812.

“There are a lot of ‘cool’ companies in Indiana, but we have the coolest and most unique,” he added.

Here is one of their locally-manufactured harps that was played by a musician in Turkey:

To advance in the competition, the business needs your votes. You can vote for Harpsicle Harps by clicking here. That link will also show the other products and contestants from across the state.

There two other local businesses that were part of the competition prior to the round of 32, which was Honda of Indiana and Wood-Mizer.
