Sad day in Rushville: Downtown restaurant goes up in flames

(RUSHVILLE, Ind.) – Multiple fire departments spent hours on the scene of a fire on Main Street in Rushville Tuesday night.

The fire is believed to have started at Corner Restaurant which is at the corner of Main and Third streets.

Witnesses tell us that it spread to a neighboring building as more firefighters were asked to respond.

Some local departments that responded were Greensburg and Laurel.

A shop owner across the street from Corner Restaurant went live on Facebook, saying that it is a sad day for Rushville. 

“Police are evacuating the entire block. I’m not sure if I’ll be open tomorrow,” Elizabeth’s Keepsakes said on Facebook.

The fire was contained around 8:40 p.m. but firefighters remain on scene.

The City of Rushville released a statement saying that certain portions of downtown roads remain closed as of Wednesday morning.
