Six members named to Ripley Co. Basketball hall of fame

Induction will be held next year

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) -- The Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame will induct six new members during their April ceremony.


The organization announced Paul Bess, Brad Borgman, Marsha Lynne Fields, Jason Laudick, Alan Meyer, and Mark Riehle as their 2024 class.


A formal induction will take place in April and the six new members will be recognized during the Ripley County tournament at Batesville on January 6.


Here's a look at the 2024 inductees:


Paul Bess is a 1970 South Ripley graduate and led the Raiders to program best 25-1 record his senior year. He received numerous awards including All Semi-State team and All-State member by All-American Report Magazine.


Brad Borgman graduated in 1999 as Jac-Cen-Del's all-time leading scorer and received numerous accolades after starting all four years for the Eagles. He also had a successful college career with the University of Indianapolis and Indiana Southeast. Borgman scored over 1,000 points in college.


Marsha Lynne Fields was a member of the first Jac-Cen-Del girls team and contributed to making the Eagles a household name in the early days of Indiana girls basketball. She earned many accolades before graduating in 1976.


Jason Laudick helped bring the Bulldogs back to prominence in the 1980's. He led Batesville to their first sectional in six years and totaled 660 points in his career. Laudick also set the all-time school record for most 3-pointers in a game during the Regional final against Connersville in 1989.


Alan Meyer was part of four-straight sectional teams for the Bulldogs and helped Batesville reach the semi-state during the single-class tournament in 1994. He won the Semi-State dunk contest and received numerous awards including Hoosier Basketball Coaches All-Star and other EIAC honors.


Mark Riehle graduated from Sunman in 1961 after being a three-year varsity letter winner. He scored 272 career points and is remembered as one of the biggest stars at the former high school.

Mark Riehle is very deserving. Both as a player and later a coach at St Nicholas. His sons and grandsons have been star athletes throughout the past many years. Getting up there in age ,I'm happy he is getting this recognition
