South Dearborn beats Greensburg 6-3 in season opener

Submitted Story

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- The Knights Boys Soccer team kicked some rust off in their defeat of Greensburg Thursday night. Greensburg struck first with a beautiful chip to the goal for a header. SD equalized with a beautiful out-of-reach shot to the top right by Senior Brodie Teke.

The Knights came alive later in the first half and scored four more goals (Senior Brodie Teke with two more for a hat-trick and two for Senior Hunter Garland who also gained two assists). The Pirates were able to gain some ground with a free kick goal from the top of the 18 before halftime.

The second half was much less eventful with Senior Austyn Tibbs scoring the only goal off and assist by Sophomore Louis Cesene. Greensburg would get one more goal from a penalty kick.

The Knight’s defense was a bit shaky, but some highlights were Senior Easton Schumann saving a goal on the line and Senior Nakia Scruggs making some impressive recovery runs to stop drives. Other defenders, Senior Sam Cassini, Junior Camdyn Dausch, and Sophomores Dakota Cochran and Weston Willoughby-Perkins provided support and, other than the PK, held the Pirates scoreless in the second half.

Sophomores Louis Cesene, Nicholas Wismann, and Gage Harris along with Junior Christian Ladner were all excellent on the wings. Senior Peyton Hill and

Junior Keeper Gabe Perry and Sophomore Keeper Gage Harris shared responsibility in the goal.

The JV Knights tied their game 2-2 with both goals scored by Freshman Cameron Cheek. Freshman Scout Gray had both assists and led the midfield for much of the game.

The Knights play again this weekend at the Cougar Cup at Greenfield-Central in Greenfield, IN at 2:00pm.
