"We are extremely grateful for the continued support," Sgt. Hountz said.
(AURORA, Ind.) -- An Aurora police officer continues his recovery after a horrific crash in Northern Indiana in September.
Jarrod Nichols and his girlfriend, Riley Duerstock, were traveling through Marshall County when they were struck by an alleged drunk driver. Duerstock died from her injuries.
Fundraisers have been held for Nichols as he recovers from his injuries.
South Dearborn Middle School is among the community organizations who are helping the injured officer.
The students donated a $310 check to the Aurora Police Department on Tuesday to help with medical expenses.
Police Chief Joshua Daugherty and sergeant Mathew Hountz accepted the donation from the students.
"The students and staff at South Dearborn have been gracious and have contributed during his time of need. It is a true blessing to live and work in such a supportive community," said Sgt. Hountz.
On Tuesday, the Aurora Police Department also announced the purchase of a ballistic shield, body armor plates, hearing protection and an additional taser through a Rising Sun Regional Foundation grant.
