South Decatur seniors give back to animal shelter

Students organized a pet adoption event

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) –  Three South Decatur students used their senior project to give back to the Decatur County Animal Shelter.

The seniors were Mary Schwering, Kiley Best and Conner Newby.

In April, they held an event that featured pet adoptions at half price. It was made possible through a Go Fund Me fundraiser that they had created beforehand.

This week, the three students stopped by the animal shelter and hand-delivered the proceeds from their event, which totaled more than $1,300.

“We created this event because animals are really dear to us, and when we did research we found out how many animals are neglected, causing the animal shelter to overcrowd and we knew we needed to do something,” said Schwering.

She added, “Conner, Kiley and I decided to see if we could get the community together to not only raise money but get animals adopted to help the animal shelter out with everything they do and it felt really amazing to see the community come together and help us surpass our goals!”
