Student asked classmates to chip in to pay teacher
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The appreciation students have for one South Decatur High School teacher was evident this past week.
During geometry class, students use an online portal to complete assignments in Mr. Eddie Freeman’s class.
The website had a malfunction last week and it wasn’t working, which meant students couldn’t complete their classwork.
That would typically sound like good news to students, right? Check out what happened next:
Freeman had to pay $160 to get the website back up and running and class resumed as normal.
However, one student in the class noticed that Freeman spent his own money to repair the website.
That student sent out an email to his peers and asked them to chip in some money to pay Mr. Freeman back.
The students raised about $70 and acknowledged that while they couldn’t fully reimburse him, they hope their funds helped offset the personal cost.
The identity of the male student who launched the fundraiser is not known, however, this story was submitted by a student who as in the geometry class.
“Mr. Freeman is very kind and he cares about his job very much. He doesn’t just care about it to get a paycheck, he cares about how to help students learn easily and efficiently and he cares about his coworkers,” student Lilli Hamer told The 812.
Hamer added that Mr. Freeman is one of the many great math teachers at South Decatur High School.
