South Ripley students learn importance of pet adoptions

Sixth graders give back to Humane Society

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) -- South Ripley sixth graders have spent the past few weeks learning about the difference between shopping for pets and adopting them.

This was part of the reading and writing class taught by teacher Lisa Gilpin.

"We discussed the importance of using the Local Humane Society to adopt," Gilpin said.

Gilpin also encouraged students to bring donations and they did not disappoint.

The students donated more than 115 items along with money to the Ripley County Humane Society.

On Friday, the students received a visit from a representative of the Ripley County shelter who discussed the importance of donating and volunteering time to help the animals.

"He also said they have many cats and dogs available for adoption," Gilpin added.

After hearing the presentation, sixth grader Kaylee Hall said, “You should go to a humane society to save an animal’s life.”
