(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – A South Ripley teacher got the surprise of a lifetime on Thursday morning!
7th Grade English Teacher Katie Lanter was surprised with $25,000 as she received the “Oscar of Teaching” award from Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner, along with Dr. Jane Foley of the Milken Family Foundation.
The Milken Educator Award come with a $25,000 cash prize, an all-expenses-paid trip to the Milken Educator Awards in Los Angeles, and Lanter will join a network of teachers nationwide who get powerful mentorship opportunities for expanded leadership roles that strengthen education practice and policy.
Lanter was selected for her data-driven instruction practices, along with being a team player and her ability to extend support outside of the classroom.
“An exceptional educator and teacher leader, Katie Lanter consistently discovers new opportunities to help her students and fellow educators reach their full potential at South Ripley Junior High,” said Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education. “Mrs. Lanter is laser-focused on using sound data and her own creativity to ensure her students are receiving high-quality instruction that will set them up for success in high school and beyond.”
