Decatur County Prosecutor asked for special prosecutor in January
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Indiana State Board of Accounts released findings of an investigation into former Washington Township Trustee Christian Rust.
The investigation alleges the former trustee’s office wrongfully spent approximately $90,000 during Rust’s time in office which ended in 2022. You can read that story here.
The state agency indicated that the report would be forwarded to the Indiana Attorney General as well as the local prosecutor’s office.
Decatur County Prosecutor Nate Harter confirmed that his office petitioned for a special prosecutor to be appointed back in January, prior to the report being released.
The petition by the local prosecutor was granted prior to the report being released.
“Consideration of whether to seek criminal charges arising out of any investigation will be made by a neutral third party prosecutor from outside this jurisdiction," the prosecutor's office said.
The office added that they were made aware of the release of the report through social media on Wednesday.
There have been no indication that any criminal charges will be filed against the former trustee or his clerk.
