St. Nicholas breaks ground on Phase 2 of Heritage Project

Watch here:

(SUNMAN, Ind.) – St. Nicholas Catholic Church held a groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of their Heritage Project on Sunday.

Construction is expected to begin on the Fellowship Hall in early 2025. It will include a new gym, cafeteria, performing arts area, multi-purpose rooms and preschool.

The current gym and cafeteria was built in 1936 and it will be demolished to make way for the new facility.

The Heritage Project started as a dream in 2017 when St. Nicholas began plans to build for the future.

Community members supported the idea and raised thousands of dollars to bring this to a reality.

Phase One was completed in 2019 which included nine new classrooms, new office, upgraded technology, improved accessibility for all parishioners and new heating and cooling system.

“This campaign will enable St. Nicholas to open our doors wider, to serve more people, and to reach out further with God’s love than ever before. As with all great endeavors that seek to advance God’s mission in lasting and significant ways, this campaign invites us to consider significant and lasting generosity,” Fr. Shaun Whittington said.

Due to inflation, the church and school still needs a few more donations to make Phase II a reality. You can donate by clicking here or sending a check to:
