Stay Prepared: Power outages possible due to storms

More than 1,000 without power in Ripley County as of 2PM

Update:

According to Duke Energy, power has been restored for nearly all customers in Ripley County. There are still approximately 620 customers without electric in Oldenburg.


Original Report:

(SOUTHEAST INDIANA) – The high winds and storms have led to power outages in Southeast Indiana on Friday. More outages are possible.


As of 1:45 p.m., there are nearly 1,500 Duke Energy customers without power in Ripley County. The majority of those outages are in the Milan and Moores Hill area.


The outage has led to no electricity at Milan Elementary School Friday afternoon.



There are currently 800 homes and businesses without power in Franklin County, with the majority being in Oldenburg. while there are a handful of outages in Decatur and Dearborn counties.


Some tips that could help in advance of a possible power outage:


  • Charge your phone! As well as other devices that rely on electricity. 


  • Take an inventory of the items you need that rely on electricity.


  • Have flashlights and have a family plan.


  • Always assume all power lines are energized. Avoid touching any downed lines or tree limbs that are touching power lines.


  • Report all power outages and downed lines to proper authorities or electric company.
