Tornadoes reported in Jefferson County
(VEVAY, Ind.) – A line of strong storms moved through the area on Thursday.
Tornadoes reportedly touched down at in Jefferson County, damaging multiple homes and buildings.
Officials are warning the public to stay away from the impacted area as first responders are assessing the damage and getting to those who need assistance.
The storms also brought some tense moments in Switzerland County.
The 812’s student journalist Cadyn Smithson was home sick from school and ran over to the EMS Storm Shelter in Vevay.
“As soon as we got there, there was baseball-sized hail,” Smithson said.
“People were screaming and I thought we lost everything. It actually touched down about five miles away from us and we were hearing the tailwinds,” he added.
Smithson has been driving around Vevay and reports a lot of debris and trash, however, hasn’t noticed extensive property damage in Vevay.
The severe-storm threat is not over as more showers and thunderstorms are possible tonight.
