Student of the Week: Joey Stout

Updated: Jul 5, 2023

Joey is a world-record holder and a world traveler!

This week we're celebrating incoming fifth grader Joey Stout of Batesville!

Joey has a unique talent and has used his passion to set a world record!

He first learned the art of origami in Mrs. Davidson's fourth grade class at Batesville Intermediate this year.

He wanted to learn more about origami so he read some books and then decided to make his own projects at home.

It didn't take long to find success!

In April, Joey became the Kid's World Record holder for the largest Origami crane!

He holds the record in the 7 to 9 year-old category with his 11"x12" creation.

"Joey has made origami creations for many of his classmates. He has already beaten his own record with a crane almost twice as big as his record breaker, but has yet to submit it for measurement," said his mother, Katey.

The Batesville student also enjoys playing soccer, riding his 4-wheeler, collecting Godzilla memorabilia, art, and traveling with his family.

Get this...he has already traveled to eight different countries with his family!

"Most recently on a trip to Japan he visited Nyan Nyan Ji, which translates to Meow Meow Temple, where he and his younger brother placed origami cat faces with good wishes at their cat shrine," his mom said.

He is hoping to add a new country to his travel list soon.

Joey and his family moved here from Las Vegas three years ago and he loves living in Batesville with all his friends.

Keep up the great work, Joey, and we hope you have a great year in fifth grade!
