Program offered by Genesis: Pathways to Success
(VERSAILLES, Ind.) -- Students who are interested in healthcare careers are getting hands-on experience in Ripley County.
The Explore Health Services Camp was hosted by Genesis: Pathways to Success at the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles Monday.
The 16 students worked with instructors and alumni of the career center's Health Services and Dentisty departments.
Some skills they learned included fitting braces, suturing a wound after surgery, how to administer a vaccine, use an epi-pen, perform CPR, and conduct routine teeth-cleaning.
"Exposure gives them a hands-on approach beyond books and the classroom, and functionally helps them discern what they may want to pursue as a career," said SCC Health Science instructor Mary Schmaltz.
