STW Preview: Lawrenceburg Tigers

The Tigers are aiming for another Lucas Oil visit

Quick notes:

Class 3A Sectional 31

Head coach: Ryan Knigga

Record at Lawrenceburg: 112-37 heading into his 13th year

2022 Record: 13-2; State Runner-Up, lost 34-14 in the State Final to Bishop Chatard

If you would have asked anyone at the beginning of the 2022 season if the Lawrenceburg Tigers were going to make it to the State Final, a lot of people would have looked at you like you had three heads. Sure, the Tigers were talented but they lost a ton of starters from that previous year that were very good players for the team. A lot of folks would have said that it was a rebuild year and with a lot of new faces, they aren’t sure what was going to happen. Coach Ryan Knigga and company took that as a persona challenge and made it all the way to the State Final to the shock and awe of the community. Now, in 2023, the Tigers want to finish where they left off last year and win a State Championship because once a Tiger gets a taste, the hunt begins.

It’s going to be a long road to Indianapolis so let’s start with where the Tigers are at right now. In 2023, the Tigers bring back a relatively familiar crew. Losing 15 seniors is tough, especially when it’s guys like Niko Ferreira, Alex Witte, and Jake Pierce but the crew that takes over is just as fierce. QB Logan Ahaus takes over the Tiger offense again this year and is looking to lead his team to a ton of victories. He has been working hard all off season to improve on his almost 1200 yards through the air and 12 touchdowns. Teagan Bennett also returns as the teams running back. After missing a couple games last year, Bennett was able to return to the backfield and absolutely DOMINATE. Although he missed two games, he was still able to put up 1532 yards on the ground and 18 touchdowns. Teagan is definitely a player to watch this year as he looks to have a breakout senior year.

Over on the defensive side of things, the Tigers are looking to recreate the magic they had last year with a unit that served up 6 shutout games in a row and 7 total for the year.

Be sure to get out and support your Tigers in 2023!
