STW Preview: South Dearborn Knights

Hoping to repeat first EIAC title since 1996

Quick notes:

Class 3A Sectional 31

Head coach: Rand Ballart

Record at South Dearborn: 37-45 heading into his 9th season

2022 Record: 7-3; lost in Sectional opener to Lawrenceburg 35-6

The Knights are a team that in 2023 is looking to repeat a few things and improve on a few things. Coming off their first EIAC title since 1996, it’s safe to say that the Knights are looking to hoist another one this season. Posting back to back seven win seasons is great but the Knights are looking to get over the hump and stack more wins and make a run into the playoffs this season.

They’ve got some experience coming back. QB Adam Kunkle looks to improve on his record setting 2022 campaign where he threw for 2253 yards and 19 touchdowns. His favorite target last year in Austin Ballart has since graduated but look for Hudson Shackleford and Olli Babcock to be hauling in touchdowns this year. Both those players bring speed and spectacular catch ability to the Knights. RB CJ Evans also returns this year, looking to improve on his 515 yards and 7 touchdowns. The offensive line also returns to key players in Blake Pruss and Mahlon Bressert.

Over on defense, the Knights return a linebacker core that is extremely stout and disciplined. Led by Brayden Johnson and Brady Ballart, who both had 98 tackles each last season, along with Dylon Wynn and JD Wickersham. On the outside, Blake Lagaly and Dylan Leffler return to provide solid tackling and look to improve on their interception numbers this year.

Be sure to get out and support your Knights in 2023!
