If someone were to ask me, "What 4-H means to me"
(VEVAY, Ind.) – A recent Switzerland County High School graduate is reflecting on the lessons she has learned through 4-H.
The Switzerland County 4-H Fair took place earlier this month and marked the end of Halle Archer’s 10-year membership as a 4-H member.
She grew up on the farm and joined 4-H as a third grader. She specialized in showing cattle and sheep, and was also involved in craft and photography projects.
“Most people come to the fair and see kids showing their animals and some may behave and some may not, but no one sees all the hours of blood, sweat, and tears that goes into one animal,” she said.
One lesson that sticks out to Archer is learning about responsibility. She also credits 4-H for creating many new friendships along the way.
“The 4-H community is truly unreal, and all of the people at that fair are only there to see you succeed. I would not want to grow up any other way, because I feel like 4-H gave me the opportunity to discover so much,”
“4-H has made me independent, fearless, dedicated, and very resilient.”
Archer says she will continue to support her siblings and friends who are still in the program.
Outside of 4-H, she found success on the soccer field for the Pacers, earning a MaxPreps Player of the Week nomination last fall.
She is heading to Indiana University this fall to study nursing.
