(VEVAY, Ind.) — Recently, Switzerland County’s Business Professionals of America students went to Indianapolis to compete at the state level. Among the 35 middle and high school students to attend, 12 of those students will compete at the national level in May.
They placed as follows:
Ava Cole - 1st place in Advanced Interview Skills
Aiden Furnish - 1st place in Extemporaneous Speech – Aiden also placed 1st place in Extemporaneous Speech last year at nationals.
Cooper Todd - 2nd place in Integrated Office Applications
Cooper Hon - 5th place in C# Programming
Maddie Levell - 6th Place in Advanced Office Systems
Kodi Thayer has been the BPA advisor for SCHS since she started teaching in 2010. She says that every year that she has been at SCHS, at least one of her students has made it to nationals. One thing that Kodi had noted is that the trip wouldn’t be possible without the community’s support. “They support us through everything– whether it’s a donation, coming to a fundraising event, or even just their congratulations.”
Ava Cole, who has been in BPA for 6 years, is this year’s chapter president and also serves on the Region 12 Leadership Committee. Cole tells us that she looks forward to their upcoming fundraisers, which are the biggest of the year. “We have the 5K, which happens in town on April 13th, and our BPA cookout on April 5th.” She also wanted to thank the community for their support.
Switzerland County’s BPA will be competing in Chicago, IL from May 10th to May 14th.
