(VEVAY, Ind.) – The annual tradition that brings community members and students together through the American Flag continues in Vevay.
Switzerland County residents are encouraged to bring old, worn out American Flags to the Community Foundation of Switzerland County office at 303 Ferry Street.
Residents will then receive a new, embroidered 3' x 5' American Flag. The program has approximately 100 American Flags.
It’s a project that involves Jefferson-Craig Elementary School and Switzerland County Elementary School students.
Each person who exchanges a flag will be given a personal letter from the students. All exchanged flags will be given to American Legion Post 185 for proper flag retirement.
“I learned that it is a symbol of patriotism and the flag shows a lot of respect for your country. It also represents that a lot of people died for your country,” an elementary student told The 812 in 2022.
The program has taken place for the past two years.
