"Wherever you go there is always a Hoosier doing something important there."
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- The 812’s Ellie Acra interviewed Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb during his visit to Japan Tuesday night.
The 812 was invited to interview the governor during the economic development trip with the state’s largest foreign investor.
In the interview, Gov. Holcomb pointed to continued expansion of business partnerships with Japan as a key to bringing high-paying jobs to Hoosiers.
Acra asked the governor how those expansions would affect economic opportunity for young Hoosiers that are just entering the workforce.
Holcomb said partnerships with Japanese businesses who want to define the future provides not just opportunity, but options. According to Holcomb, working with innovative and technologically-advanced companies will make talent want to come and stay in Indiana.
The governor assured the Hoosier economy is growing to the point where new investments will attract talent and advance the state.
Gov. Holcomb also noted that he’s seen students from both Indiana University and Purdue University on his trip to Japan, which made him quote Kurt Vonnegut, "I don't know what it is about Hoosiers, but wherever you go there is always a Hoosier doing something important there."
And when asked about his favorite part of the trip as a tourist, Gov. Holcomb replied, “Does Krispy Kreme count?”
The governor returns to Indiana on Friday.
