Based on the Milan 1954 Miracle
(MILAN, Ind.) – The story of Milan’s 1954 state championship debuted on the big screen 38 years ago today.
‘Hoosiers’ premiered on November 14, 1986 and is regarded as one of the best sports movies ever made.
The film was inspired by Milan’s magical run when the small school beat the much larger Muncie Central to win the state championship.
The movie was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for it’s “cultural significance” in 2001.
