Macey and Kailynn found unique ways to give back to the community
(BATESVILLE, Ind.) -- This week we're celebrating Macey Benjamin and Kailynn Little as our Students of the Week!
The two cousins are competing in the National American Royals Beauty Pageant which starts today in Cincinnati.
Macey is 12-years-old and will be a seventh grader this year at Batesville Middle School.
5-year-old Kailynn is entering kindergarten at Mt. Carmel Elementary in Franklin County.
The two girls have done tons of community service projects this year leading up to the pageant.
In February, they made Valentine's Day cards for residents of a nursing home.
In March, they went to local laundromats and placed tide pods and fabric sheets for those who can't afford soap or laundry supplies.
Macey and Kailynn also donated bags of toys and crafts to patients at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
In June, they stopped by the Batesville Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office with snack bags and bottles of water.
"These police officers give us safety and protects us from harm," Macey said. "Kailynn and me went to the police station to give water and snacks to say thank you."
5-year-old Kailynn says her favorite part was making cards with her cousin and giving them to nursing home patients.
