Waldron to compete in 8-man football state title game

The league began in 2022

(WALDRON, Ind.) – Waldron will compete for a state championship in a unique football league on Saturday.

The small Shelby County high school competes in the 8-man football pilot program which is operated by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.

The league was established in 2022 as an alternative for schools who do not have the numbers for traditional 11-player programs.

There are a handful of schools across Indiana competing in the 8-man football league, as officials hope to grow the number of programs over the next few years.

Waldron is undefeated this season and will host the Tri-State Crusaders, from Fort Wayne, for the state championship trophy at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
